In times of crisis, it can seem as though we need to put much of
our lives on hold. How can we ask for a raise or a promotion or
access to special opportunities when everyone around us is running
around with their hair on fire? Shouldn’t we sit tight for a while,
put our heads down and work hard, and wait until the world settles
down before pushing ahead with what we want and need? Working from
the premise that you can and should keep your career on track even
in these troubled times, this session prompts you to examine what
you wanted before the pandemic hit, reflect on whether or not you
truly need to put those goals on hold, and think of ways to adjust
strategically if necessary.
Sara Laschever, co-author, of the groundbreaking
books Women Don’t Ask: The High Cost
of Avoiding Negotiation—and Positive Strategies for Change
and Ask for It! How Women Can Use
the Power of Negotiation to Get What They Really Want,
guides you in the process of identifying next steps: What you
should negotiate for—concrete things you could ask for in the near
term—that will help you get what you need to progress.
